Welcome

This online magazine was created in honor of the dedicated people who call themselves Aviculturists. We have been  fortunate enough to find that really unusual calling that encompasses so many different fields that even the smartest and the quickest among us are still learning after decades of study and practice. And still finding lots of things to do for Aviculture.

Aviculturists are the people who breed pet birds,
those who help maintain captive populations of birds endangered in the wild, who study avian habits and write about birds, psychologists, people interested in the specialty of avicultural medicine. We count among us pet owners and manufacturers and suppliers of all kinds of products necessary to aviculture: special incubators, cages, lights, toys.

We raise and buy untreated fruits and vegetables and learn everything we can about herbs and medicines and nutrition because of our birds. We give up smoking and filter our air and water. We stop wearing overpowering perfumes or using strong chemicals or yelling.

We Aviculturists go about our days singing old songs and hamming it up for our avian audiences, when we aren't studying biological sciences, or cleaning, or drilling holes, or preparing food. We learn more about birth and life and death because of our birds than we ever thought we would know.

Here's hoping you learn a lot and meet a lot of nice people. And, copyrights permitting, I'll even try to give you the lyrics to all those great old songs so your birds can do better than mine. "Jeepers, creepers, where'd you get those bad birds?"
